Little Free Library…………..Vilnius University

I was making my way into Vilnius University last Saturday morning (where I was running a workshop on “Coaching and Mentoring” for students) when I saw a peculiar little box attached to the building I was entering.

I thought at first that is a was a rather large bird box but on closer inspection it turned out to be a Bursu kiemo bibliotekele or to put in English a Little Free Library.

The box is left open at all times and students are invited to take any books that are in it and then return them after use. Similarly, students are encouraged to donate books to the library for use by other students.

It is a simple but very philanthropic idea and seems to work well and perhaps says something about the kind of students that attend Vilnius University.

British universities may want to try this…………….but don’t hold your breath.

Cool! There is now one in Uzupis too. Where exactly is this one located?

Hi Elizabeth The “little free library” outside the bookshop adjacent to the Department Of Philosophy on the main campus. Where is the one in Uzupis as I have never seen it but have walked around the area many times?
