I have visited many cities in Europe and marveled at much of the architecture, particularly in cities such as Vienna, Prague, Barcelona and Amsterdam (not forgetting London).
But I have to confess that the building that captured my imagination (and heart) is Vilniaus Šv. Stanislovo ir Šv. Vladislovo Arkikatedra Bazilika in cathedral square.
The starkness and simplicity of the building never fails to take my breath away and over the last 6 years I must have photographed it from every angle and in every month of the year except July.
The front of the cathedral by night
I cannot explain what it is about the building that impacts upon me so much other than it has an aesthetic quality that is impossible to define.
Nor is it anything spiritual as I am an atheist……………..
