I was driving back home the other day over the Pennine Hills and as I approached the top of the hills I saw a helipcopter in the distance flying backwards and forwards down into the valley.

I couldnt work out what was happening but as I got closer I could see that the helicopter was transporing bags of “something” down into the valley. This is the only way of getting down into this terrain, no roads and only very rough paths which are too narrow for any kind of vehicle.

I parked my car and took some photographs but have to confess I am still no wiser what they were doing………..a motorcyclist who had also stopped to take photographs suggested they may have been repairing parts of the “Pennine Way” which is a path that stretches the fiull length of the Pennine Chain.
