Elbow………The Best and Most Creative Band in the world

In the last few years I have become a great admirer of the band Elbow who produce songs of melodic inventiveness and lyrical simplicity (but beauty) that has not been heard since the heyday of the Beatles. From the anthemic “One day like this” which is now the virtual theme song of Glastonbury to the lyrical subtlety of “Jesus was a Rochdale girl” and one of their most recent offerings “My sad captains” which contains some glorious trumpet playing (see the excellent all female brass / reed section in the above video).

For the uninitiated I would recommend the albums “The Seldom Seen Kid” alongside “Build a Rocket Boys!” the latter contains one of their most haunting and beautiful songs “The night will always win”

Try them out and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

There is a video on Youtube of the performance of The Seldom Seen Kid with the group backed by the BBC Concert Orchestra, seek it out as it is a majestic performance.
