Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to “respond with a heavy hand” after at least four people were killed and eight injured in what Israeli police described as a “terrorist” attack on a synagogue in Jerusalem.
Mr Netanyahu condemned Tuesday’s violence as a “cruel murder of Jews who came to pray and were killed by despicable murderers”.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas denounced the bloodshed in a statement, saying: “The presidency condemns the attack on Jewish worshippers in their place of prayer and condemns the killing of civilians no matter who is doing it.”
Police said the attackers were Palestinians from East Jerusalem. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a militant group, said the cousins were its members.
A PFLP statement did not specify whether the group instructed the cousins to carry out the attack. Hamas, the militant Palestinian group that runs the Gaza Strip, praised the attack.
Perhaps those who criticise Israel will now understand why they take a hard stance with the Palestinians. Imagine the outcry there would have been from the “muslim world” if four imams had been slaughtered in a mosque whilst praying. It is commendable that President Abbas has condemned the killings but more noticeable is the fact that Hamas has “praised” the killings. This is the group that we are told the Israelis should negotiate with, a group that has it enshrined in their constitution that “Israel has no right to exist” and teaches its children that Jews should be killed.
I note also there has been a deafening silence from the “Left” in the UK but this is what is to be expected from those who exist in a “socialist little bubble” but will be out on the streets as soon as Israel takes any action.
