Greek tragedy……………and Elgar

Everyone knows about the economic problems that Greece as a country is facing and it would seem that nothing is safe from the austerity package being implemented in that country.

I came across this short video which I wasn’t sure what it was about but then read that this orchestra was giving a “final performance” on the day that it was being “terminated”

“Nimrod” from Elgar’s “Enigma Variations” is an emotional piece of music at the best of times but in the circumstances it is a particularly poignant choice for the orchestra to play.

Watch and see the female violinist be reduced to tears as she plays in the orchestra for the last time………….but be ready to brush away a tear from your own cheek.
