There are lies, damned lies and student excuses for late submission of work!

For anyone who has ever worked in an educational establishment and has suffered from the inevitable student excuses for late submission of work. Every excuse from “my dog has shingles” to “I went back to Pakistan for a wedding……….for a month!”

Students never seem to learn that as tutors we have heard every possible excuse under the sun and that we greet each academic year with a desperate “please let them be original with their excuses.”

I had my computer stolen and another time a fire in my apartment, was stranded in France due to the volcanoes in Island, but still managed to turn in ALL of my work early or at the latest on the due date.
But I have witnessed people receiving a better treatment when they were late than those that were timely with their submissions (which is definitely not fair).
My own teaching experience has shown me that as you say, submissions on time or honest late ones are rare…

But then you are a responsible adult, take there handing in of work on time very seriously and behave in a professional way. Unfortunately, there are many student today who see handing work in on time as n “optional extra”…………maybe it is a generation thing!
